Sergeant Major Studer enlisted in the Marine Corps on November 10, 1997 and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, Lance Corporal Studer was assigned to Marine Detachment Fort Sill, OK as a student of the Marine Corps Cannon Crewman Course where he received the MOS 0811 Field Artillery Cannonier. 

In August 1998, Lance Corporal Studer reported to Battery L 3rd Battalion 10th Marines, where he served as a Cannonier, Section Chief, Platoon Sergeant, and Battery Gunnery Sergeant.

In February 1999, Corporal Studer deployed with BLT 3/8 with the 24th MEU as the A-Chief for Howitzer Section 6 and Squad Leader in support of Humanitarian Assistance missions in Albania and Provisional Rifle Company for peace keeping operations in Kosovo.

In March 2001 was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.  In March 2003, Sergeant Studer deployed with BLT 1/8 with the 26th MEU where he served as Section Chief and Squad Leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Joint Task Force Liberia.

In July 2004, was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.  In September 2004, Staff Sergeant Studer deployed with 2nd Battalion 10th Marines to Camp Taqaddum, Iraq where he served as a Provisional Infantry Company Platoon Sergeant.

In August 2005 Staff Sergeant Studer deployed with Lima Battery 3rd Battalion 10th Marines to Camp Blue Diamond, Iraq where he served as Guard Chief, Platoon Sergeant, Maintenance Officer, and Armory Officer.  On April 2 2006, was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In February 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Studer deployed with Lima Battery attached to 2nd Battalion 10th Marines to Camp Fallujah, Iraq where he served as Battery Gunnery Sergeant for a Provisional Infantry Company.

In January 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Studer reported to Fort Sill, OK where he served as instructor and Academic’s Chief for the Marine Corps Cannon Crewman Course, Battery Gunnery Sergeant, and Battery First Sergeant. 

In April 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Studer was frocked to First Sergeant and reported to 1st Radio Battalion where he assumed duty as Company First Sergeant, where he deployed to Afghanistan as the Company First Sergeant and Linguist Manager in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12.2.  During his tenure with 1st Radio Battalion, he served as the Company First Sergeant for three of the four companies.

In March 2014, First Sergeant Studer received orders to 3d Maintenance Battalion where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

In 2016, was selected to his current rank and reported to MCAS Cherry Point, where he served as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 2 (VMAQ-2).  During his tenure with VMAQ-2 the squadron deployed to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey and Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINAL.  Upon completion of the squadron’s final deployment, he assisted in the deactivation of the final EA-6B Squadron.

In July 2019, Sergeant Major Studer received orders and reported to Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group, where he is currently serving as the Group Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Studer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (valor and 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award), Combat Action Ribbon (gold star in lieu of 2nd award).
