Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR)

Sexual Assault is a crime!  It is defined as the intentional sexual contact, characterized by use of force, physical threat or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent. Sexual assault includes rape, non-consensual sodomy (oral or anal sex), indecent assault (unwanted, inappropriate sexual contact or fondling) or attempts to commit these acts.

Victims of sexual assault have two reporting options:

Restricted Reporting - Allows a sexual assault victim to confidentially disclose the details of his or her assault to specified individuals, receive medical treatment, a P.E.R.K (Physical Evidence Recovery Kit) and counseling, without triggering command notification or law enforcement investigation.

Unrestricted Reporting -This option is recommended for victims of sexual assault who desire an official law enforcement investigation. Additionally, the same support services (medical, counseling, P.E.R.K) are afforded to victims who chose this option as well as advocacy. When selecting unrestricted reporting, victims should use current reporting channels, (UVA, chain of command, healthcare personnel, law enforcement or SARC). Details regarding the incident will be limited to only those personnel who have a legitimate need to know.

In order to understand your options of restricted or unrestricted reporting, you can speak with your Uniformed Victim Advocate (UVA), your Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC), SAPR Program Manager or with a medical provider. Speaking with these individuals is the best way to protect your privacy and confidentiality. Other individuals may be compelled by the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) to report this crime.
